Our Story

Hello and welcome to ThatGoldenLife.com! We’re Derek & Tia Brown! Thought we would introduce ourselves real quick and explain WHY we started this blog & share our story.

WHO ARE WE?
I, Tia, am originally from the beautiful deserts of Arizona & Derek is from Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains…(hoping someone catches my joke). We both relocated to Utah because we both love the outdoors and if you know anything about Utah, you know its an outdoor enthusiast paradise. We have been living in Utah for over four years now. We recently got married in February of 2016 and have two golden retrievers named Hank & Lucy, who were the inspiration for our blog’s name.

SO WHY DO WE BLOG?
Derek agreed to this crazy travel adventure after I was diagnosed with a rare eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa (it’s no biggie, it’s life). Because my eye sight is slowly, but gradually going away, we decided to explore every nook and cranny this beautiful world has to offer. So we want to SEE the world before I can’t SEE the world anymore. We are starting off by exploring the beautiful lands of the United States then venturing off to Asia and Europe in the spring of 2017!

WHAT’S OUR END GOAL?
So we want to start a non profit to help spread awareness of this disease & help those who don’t have access or can’t afford the necessities to be able to SEE, like eye glasses & contacts. Its a slow process, but we are working on it and we are so excited!

WHY FOLLOW ALONG?
We have both been traveling for a living for the last three years. Because of that, we have gotten really good at booking hotels, finding the best places to stay and the funnest things to do in every city we visit. We are also big outdoor enthusiasts, so you will see all of those crazy adventures on here as well. Because our blog is named after our pups, we will also share some tips on traveling with dogs and all the dog friendly adventures we bring our pups on!

Thank you all for following along on our journey to #SEEtheworld
XO, Derek & Tia Brown
